DESIGN RATIONALE

The aim of this project was to create an entertaining type specimen booklet that showcases Abril’s elaborate and distinguishing characteristics, while also capturing its essence and unique personality. The specimen booklet design uses a minimal and reductive approach to represent these features.

The typographic rhythm of the specimen booklet is consistent, guiding readers through a layout that exhibits both the informative and display setting elements in a systematic manner. The use of scale used on the letterforms further adds to the visual impact and highlights the unique properties of the Abril typeface. Typographic patterns created through combining several letters and glyphs from the Abril font family allow readers to observe a variety of Abril's stylistic capabilities and introduces elements of playfulness and movement. The colour palette creates powerful contrast and a sophisticated visual appeal while also adding vibrancy and distinctiveness to the design of the specimen booklet.
